AOL Dublin development team plays key role in new AOL.co.uk homepage Print

Dublin, Ireland - June 28, 2011 -AOL's Dublin Development team is playing a key role in the rollout of new AOL homepages to an AOL audience of 270 million online users worldwide. The new AOL.co.uk homepage launched last week was developed by AOL's Development Team in Dublin in partnership with the US and UK teams, following the launch of new homepages for AOL.com and AOL.ca, which the Dublin team also worked on.

AOL, publisher of some of the UK's most popular websites including MyDaily, Asylum, Eleven and Parentdish, not to mention the soon to launch The Huffington Post, has launched a major new revamp of its homepage, aol.co.uk, bringing with it a stack of user friendly features all with content and usability at their heart. Having listened intently to its millions of users, AOL UK's new homepage aims to give visitors to the site more of what gets them excited, placing real-time, quality content at the centre of the user experience, combined with an improved layout, greater search and navigation tools and personalisation.

First up is AOL.co.uk's brand new celebrity platform ‘You've Got', giving the great, the good and the wannabe's an uninterrupted 60 seconds of stardom to deliver a message of their choosing. Kicking things off in the first of AOL's ‘You've Got' featurettes Dannii Minogue gets the ball rolling bringing AOL UK users the latest from Australia's Got Talent. Stars lined up to deliver You've Got going forward include Matt Damon, Jackie Collins and even Cookie Monster! Each day will also feature a new video-lead fixture called Editor's Picks, a special selection of shareable clips, whilst The Daily Buzz will bring together the day's most talked about and trending stories, inviting AOL.co.uk users to join the conversation.

Discussing the project, Aengus McClean, Head of AOL Global Operations Limited said: "Our Dublin Development Centre has been working hard on this exciting project with our US and UK teams. The launch of the new aol.co.uk homepage builds on the innovative development work which the Dublin team conducted for the new aol.com homepages launched for the US last year and for Canada (aol.ca) earlier this year. The new aol.co.uk homepage brings enhanced usability, social network sharing capabilities and new exciting content. Our Development Team in Dublin is focused on building the world's best content on the web with the highest quality, highest scale content for consumers and the best products and services for our partners."

Launching with Tesco as advertising partner, the updated aol.co.uk homepage offers a broad range of advertising solutions including the revolutionary Project Devil format, offering brands 100% share of voice on the page. The increased visibility of video also provides additional advertising opportunities, including the integration of goviral's branded video content on the homepage. UK Devil campaigns have yielded exciting results, leading to increased user engagement, greater brand awareness, more social referrals and amplified online sales orders.

AOL.co.uk's bright new incarnation also ensures that not only are users up to speed with the most important national and international developments, but also gain access to more content and video than ever before. The site also enables greater personalisation with a whole host of new background canvases for users to choose from.

The full line-up of new AOL.co.uk features includes:

  • "You've Got" - The web's open microphone, where the famous and not-so-famous get their 45 seconds to send timely messages to the UK. Surprise guests will all have something interesting to say.
  • Video - An in-page video player takes over the screen and plays an increasing amount of video from AOL and its partners including ITN and indie comedy producer, Pulp.
  • The Daily Buzz - A strip of fun, engaging and important stories people are talking about and sharing.
  • Editor's Picks - A special section on AOL.co.uk highlighting the best videos each day, bringing users surprising content to share with friends.

The new AOL.co.uk also offers enhanced social network sharing capabilities, which continue to drive distribution of AOL content as consumers point their "friends" to compelling stories and videos.
